The Rise and Fall of the Automated Blog Post

For months now I would write all my blog posts weeks in advance so my blog would have a constant stream of interesting content. I would find stuff all over the internet that I found interesting and I would pass that along with a little bit of anecdotal text for good measure. This model worked great for me over the past year or so and people seem to like it.

Lately I've been kicking around the idea of redesigning my website so I dug out my older designs for the site just to see what it used to look like. One of those templates had some old blog posts on it and they were all very relevant to my day to day life. Not that I don't put things about my life in my current posts but it seems like over the years this has changed from a blog about me to a blog about my internet browsing habits. You see while reading over those old blog posts I realized that Facebook has stolen my personal thunder.

I used to write long posts about how Jimmy John's skimped me on tomatoes again or how Pre-Played was burglarized and I even posted about the time I made a suit of armor because I was bored. If any of those things happened today I would make a short status update and explain myself in the comments if anyone cared enough to ask questions.

You see in the redesign process I feel like its about time I redesign what I blog about. So in the future I plan to write a bit about myself and a bit less on interesting internet memes. If you still want to see that random stuff be sure to follow me on Google Reader because I'm going to be sharing a lot more of that content there. Keep in mind if you don't want me flooding your reader with shared content you may also want to un follow me. And at the the end of the day Facebook will still be a place for random status updates like the one I posted last night.

That suit of armor is awesome!!

What you said about Facebook really struck a note with me. I'm going to ponder this a bit and maybe write a post myself. Thanks, Brad!
