GI Joe

Already I've seen a drop off in posts since deciding I would post less internet related items and focus again on my random adventures. That was expected, of course, but it still caught me by surprise to log in this morning and see my last post was five days ago.

Overall I had a great weekend and got to hang out with some amazing friends. Best of all I was able to reminisce about my old friend Sargent Slaughter.

Now I've never personally known Sargent Slaughter but as a kid he was the live action voice of GI Joe which I do count as an old friend. Maybe I should start from the beginning...

As a kid my brother and I pretty much lived GI Joe. From action figures to cartoons they were perhaps our favorite toys growing up. Sargent Slaughter was a main stay of the GI Joe toy line. He voiced the character and even filmed live action intros and promos for the show. In 1985 or so they had a "mail-away" away promo where you could get your very own Sargent Slaughter action figure. I still remember getting that toy all those years ago.

On Friday of last week Jacque and I were invited to go to a Mallard's baseball game and the special guest was Sargent Slaughter. Not only did he throw out the first pitch but he also got into an wrestling match with the catcher. I was ten feet away from the Cobra Claw. It was a good time and I'm glad we were able to see the game.

The rest of the weekend I was thinking back to how much fun I would have playing with those little plastic army guys.
