The Little Avocado That Could

I love to make guacamole and in doing so we go through a lot of avocados. All those pits and avocado skins just get tossed into our compost heap never to be seen again. That is until I go to turn over the compost and find an avocado pit that rooted into the compost.

How cool of a find is that? I took out the little plant and put it into a pot and it has been growing slowly but surely outside our back door for the past month or so. I'll have to bring the little guy inside over the winter so it doesn't die but man how cool would it be to get an avocado tree to produce (fruit?) inside the house? It would be guacamole city up in our place. I'm trying not to get too excited because winter is pretty tough on our indoor plants. We don't get a lot of sunlight in the winter and by spring most of our plants are looking pretty rough. On top of that I think avocado trees have to get pretty big before you start to get some avocados. At any rate it's always fun to watch plants grow....especially when they could provide you with kick ass fresh avocados someday.

WANT!!!
