As nice as that sounds I have been keeping busy so I'm sure my weekends will be full again in no time. Here is a list of projects I have going that may or may not get done anytime soon.
Attic Renovations
This is my current big project. Over the last few days I've been gutting our attic in order to replace the old crappy insulation with newer more better insulation. I was planning on doing this in the spring before it got hot but things didn't work out. Now I'm up in the attic sweating and getting dust everywhere. I must say I'm making some pretty good progress though and once all the particle board is off the walls and ceiling I'll be able to rip up the floor and rewire the attic pretty quick. After that it's just a matter of putting in the new insulation and finishing the thing off. We are hoping for a nice little reading room/guest room by the time I'm done with it. We'll see how that goes.
Magnetic Spice Rack
Another project that is well underway is an under the cabinet magnetic spice rack. I read a good writeup on this over on the Instructables website and knew it would be a great way to save cabinet space in our tiny house. I might even be able to finish this project off next week but I'm not holding my breath on that one. I have a busy week ahead of me.
Frosted Windows
Even since we moved into the house Jacque has been saying that she wants to put a design on the windows in the basement. This is one of those things I've been putting off for months but I did read this great tip over at Lifehacker.com which might make the job a bit easier when I get around to it.
"Frost" a window with liquid soap: You like some windows to let light into the house or an office, but you'd like a little more privacy than what clear glass gives you. Use liquid soap to paint the glass. You can use a paintbrush or your fingers to create a design in the soap or keep it plain. It will "frost" the window to keep your privacy, but let in light.
Blind Makeover
Here is another interesting idea I read about on Lifehacker.com. Covering my cheap roller blinds with fabric to make them look better. It is a cheap solution that someday I'll implement.
HTPC
So if you don't know what a HTPC is then this one will need some explanation. HTPC stands for Home Theater PC which is basically a computer hooked up to your TV to play back your music, videos, games and pictures. I currently run all my photos and music off a Mac in our computer room but it would be great if instead of a wall of DVD and Blu Ray discs I could put them all on a PC and watch them on the TV without having to find the disc I'm looking for.
This project is actually much farther along then the others. The super hot summer really forced this project along much faster than I expected. In fact it is so far along that I can see this being finished within a month or two. That is unless the nice weather we've had this week holds out then I don't see this getting done before winter.
Beer Tap
Finally I present to you my ultimate home upgrade project....the beer tap table.
OK I really don't have any room for a beer tap table but isn't it cool. This one comes from Meridian Pint in Washington D.C. and you can see more pictures of it here. I would have to do some major finishing to my basement to even think about having room for something like that. If I'm going to do that much work I think I'll just put in a sauna at the same time. Oops I just ran out of imaginary money. :(
Well in the real world I have my minds eye set on this baby.
Can you see it? That nice in-wall beer tap above the sink. How about a closer view?
Simple and affordable. I would just have to set up a kegerator in the basement and install the tap in the wall. I even have a space picked out for it next to the refrigerator. As you can see I have a ton of other projects currently on the table so the wall tap may have to wait for a bit.
Fingers crossed I will have time and money to get around to that one next year.
