About an hour Southwest of my house is a small Wisconsin town called New Glarus. I've driven through a few times and it's a pretty neat place. They have a population of about 2,000 people and are in a pretty cool portion of the state. Until yesterday the only thing I knew that came out of New Glarus was beer. The New Glarus brewery makes a few great beers that are local favorites. I have even been known to partake in a few myself from time to time. Yesterday while looking up information about the new
Conan BluRay discs I came across a great little fact about New Glarus. It turns out that Jody Samson, sword maker, moved his personal shop from Burbank, California, to New Glarus in 2001. This is important to know because Jody Samson made the original swords for Conan the Barbarian in 1982. After moving his studio to New Glarus Jody helped teach the folks at Albion Swords how to recreate film replica Conan swords. So besides great beer, the other thing kick ass thing that comes out of New Glarus is Conan's sword.
You can seriously order that or any of the swords from the 1982 Conan film by hitting up
Albion's website. Sadly Jody passed away in 2008 but his legacy still lives on in the swords he created. If anyone is interested in a killer gift for me I suggest picking up the 20th anniversary edition Conan the Barbarian Atlantean sword for only $2,975. Don't worry they have payment plans too.
