Abandoned Ideas

Normally when I start an art project I have a ton of ideas in my head and I just put them all down on paper and see what looks best. Well by paper I mean computer screen but you get the idea. Usually I end up with one idea I like over all the others and so I set out to realize my favorite idea.

I don't know what other artists do but I usually file all those random ideas away into some dark corner of the hard drive and forget about them. Today I'm doing something completely different by sharing those abandoned ideas with you.

These are very rough ideas and they have zero of my artwork on them. I often use found images online to see how a finished designs layout will work when finished.

So in the end I had about seven ideas for skateboards and I made it down to five I liked. Although I like the looks of these boards they do seem a little plain. I felt like they lacked that goofiness that was prevalent on the Boba Phat skatedeck. Any one of these would make a cool board to ride on but even after I create my own artistic version of these characters I still felt like they were missing something. Luckily the idea I decided to finish has just the right amount of goofiness and originality. Now all I have to do is find the time to start yet another art project.
