Facebook is Awesome

A few years ago I had a myspace page which slowly began to take over my internet usage over time.  At first it was fun looking at all my friends profiles and just seeing what people were up to.  Eventually I started to send messages and leave comments as well.  After that it spread to checking out blog entries and seeing all the new picture uploads.  The next thing I knew I was spending about an hour on myspace every time I went online.  Something had to give so I deleted my profile and that was that.

OK that isn't entirely true because Jacque and I still have a myspace profile for our dog online.  Hell I even post blog updates on that from time to time.  The point is that the whole facebook/myspace thing can get ahold of your daily internet use and waste a lot of your time.

Apparently that just isn't so for people outside of the United States.  It seems that the rest of the worlds is mostly using facebook and myspace for doing some awesome things.  From crashing parties, instigating riots and starting things like the "Night of Mayhem," they seem to just do anarchy online a little better than we do.  All of those things just sound a hell of a lot cooler than showing off pictures of your new car or your drunk birthday party.  The one that really caught my attention was that high school students were using social websites for "dipping" parties.  They find a swimming pool with google maps and then tell a ton of people online to crash it and go swimming.

What a great idea...it has been kind of warm lately.
